Parc Frontenac
St. Louis, Missouri
The new headquarters facility for Reinsurance Group of America, Inc. is an interactive and connective workplace that accommodates the needs for flexibility and growth appropriate to a Fortune 500 company. Set on a natural site in Chesterfield, Missouri, this 405,000-square-foot linked two-building campus provides office and amenity programs that enable appropriate solutions for RGA’s different working styles and needs for future development. The headquarters includes state-of-the-art security features, a café seating 500 people and a 2,500-square-foot fitness facility. The 550,000-square-foot cast-in-place garage includes 1,400 spaces across three levels; one on grade and two above.
The design reflects the mathematical work of the actuary, which is one of RGA’s Business Units, by manipulating a pattern of glass on two simple office buildings over an amenity base that mediates the site’s complex 70-foot slope. That slope also allows the majority of the parking to be hidden underground, increasing the usable area for another expansion phase. The buildings are skinned in an alternating pattern of fritted high-performance glass to reduce solar heat gain yet allow natural light and views for the employees.
The headquarters achieved LEED Silver accreditation from the USGBC and incorporates daylight harvesting. In addition, its central heating and cooling plant reduces overall energy use by 38%.
